It’s easy to get stir crazy at home or fall down the rabbit hole of the internet’s all-consuming media binges. But instead of turning to Netflix, books, and games as sources of entertainment, some of our community members are finding ways to cope that celebrate the community while tapping into their creative side. Here’s how a few of our local artists and entrepreneurs are embracing the Beaumont spirit and sharing their work online.
Business Bingo
With a motto of “In a world of Cheerios, be a Froot Loop,” Sade Chick is a sassy chick that started virtual restaurant and business bingo as a way to promote the local businesses in a lighthearted way. There are blank bingo cards posted on her Facebook account, which you can save and fill out with any of the listed establishments to win gift cards to many spots that she and fellow local, Jennifer Pate, have personally purchased to give away. She hosts lunchtime Facebook Lives with the games while also sharing what she loves about each place. For upcoming dates and times, check out her personal Facebook.
Beaumont Inspired Art
Beloved local nature photography Kenyan Guidry is one of the OG members of the Cattail Marsh crew and constantly outside documenting nature. And while nothing can keep this fiery spirit down, he has taken his art and poetry indoors to get him through the quarantine. While he sketches and doodles away, he’s also created a coloring book for you based on his photographs and drawings. If your kids are looking for a new art project, why not sneak in a bit of education about the area’s biodiversity? You can download the pages here. Digital Concerts
Gig workers and performers have been especially affected by the public gathering restrictions, with dozens of events and festivals forced to cancel or postpone. Instead of getting down, local musicians have gotten creative, taking their talents online. Beloved band, the Curse and the Cure held a “LIVE ON LOCKDOWN” concert right from their living room. Virtual Yoga
If you need a mindfulness break during the chaos, LoveYoga is posting daily Facebook videos for guided gentle flow movements and meditation as a way to stay grounded and find connection despite being away from one another.
